Dynamic Anti-Retraction Treatment
The DART Technique uses botulinum toxin to relax the dartos muscle and certain pelvic floor muscles that attach to the penile shaft and drive involuntary penile retraction. When overactive, this muscle pulls the penis inward, commonly described as “turtling.” By reducing this baseline contraction, the penis can rest in a more natural, relaxed flaccid state.
Developed by Dr Ross Calopedos, the technique is based on a detailed understanding of the muscular factors that influence flaccid penile length and presentation. It does not affect erect size or function. The goal is to improve flaccid appearance and reduce unwanted retraction, which is most noticeable in cold conditions, at the beach or during physical activity.
What It Can Address
- Involuntary penile retraction (“turtling”)
- A less favourable or inconsistent flaccid presentation
The Procedure
Once topical local anaesthetic has taken effect, botulinum toxin is injected into the dartos and pelvic floor muscle attachments using an anatomically targeted technique. There is minimal downtime and most patients return to normal activities the same day. Sexual activity and strenuous exercise should be avoided for 24 to 48 hours afterwards.
DART with UroFill®
The DART Technique can also be used to prepare for UroFill® girth enhancement. Because the dartos muscle applies dynamic forces to the shaft, it can push filler away from where it is placed and create irregularities, particularly at the base. Reducing this muscle activity beforehand creates a more stable environment for filler, helping to engineer a smoother, more even result. Where suitable, Dr Ross may recommend DART around two weeks before the first UroFill® session.
Results & pricing
Results typically develop within 1 to 2 weeks as the muscle relaxes. Longevity varies, but most men find results last 3 to 6 months, and repeat sessions can be arranged once the effect fades. Pricing: $1,200 per session.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Does the DART Technique Change Erect Size or Function?
No. DART targets the muscles responsible for flaccid retraction. It is designed to improve flaccid appearance and reduce “turtling”. It does not affect erect size or erectile function.
How Long Do Results Last?
Results usually develop within 1 to 2 weeks and most men find they last 3 to 6 months. Repeat sessions can be arranged once the effect wears off to maintain the result.
Can DART Be Combined with UroFill®?
Yes. DART is often used to prepare for UroFill® by reducing dartos muscle activity that can otherwise displace filler, helping create a smoother, more even result. It is typically performed around two weeks before the first UroFill® session.
